In a January 6 episode of Ogie Diaz Showbiz Update, Ogie revealed that the exchange happened when Liza responded to his public birthday greeting on Instagram through a private message. This gesture marked their first communication in three years.
“Noong nakaraan hindi ako bumabati, hindi naman masama ‘yung loob ko, kundi hindi ko maramdaman ‘yung sincerity (In the past, I wouldn’t greet her—not because I held any ill feelings, but because I couldn’t feel the sincerity),” he said. “Ngayon, wala akong pakialam kahit sabihin n’yong, ‘gusto n’yo lang magbati kayo,’ wala akong pakialam, binati ko talaga si Liza (Now, I don’t care if people say, “You just want to make up,” I don’t care—I greeted Liza).”
The birthday message he wrote for the actress was: “Happy bday, Liza Soberano! Sana ma-achieve mo ang dream mo (I hope you achieve your dreams) to make it big in Hollywood! Sana ay mapaligiran ka din ng mga tamang tao para mas mabilis mo siyang ma-achieve (I hope you are surrounded by the right people so you can achieve success faster)! Love you, Hopie!”
Then, the actress replied: “Thank you, Tito Ogie. I hope you and the family are doing well.”
Afterwards, the veteran comedian expressed how happy he was about their interaction, hoping they would have the chance to see each other again in the future.
“I am so happy na okay kami ni Liza (that Liza and I are okay now). Alam mo simpleng message niya or reply niya sa aking IG Story, naku malaking bagay ‘yun sa akin. Sana one of these days magkita kami, mag-usap kahit (You know, even a simple message or reply from her on my IG Story—that means so much to me. I hope that one of these days we can meet and talk) off-cam, off the record,” he shared.
He added, “Natuwa ako. Para mag-message ng ganun si Liza so wala siyang sama ng loob sa akin. Ako rin naman nung minessage ko siya, ay hindi wala na. Ang tatanda na namin, hindi ba? Kumbaga, ano ‘yun magtatanim ka ba ng sama ng loob? Once upon a time, naging anak mo ‘yan. Nabigyan ka rin naman ng magandang career because of Liza (I was really glad. For Liza to send a message like that means she doesn’t hold any grudges against me. And when I messaged her, I didn’t hold anything either. We’re getting older now, right? I mean, are you really going to hold a grudge? Once upon a time, she was like your child. I had a great career because of Liza).”
In 2022, the Filipina actress returned to the United States to pursue an acting career in Hollywood. This move also marked the end of her contract with her artist manager.
Liza Soberano made her Hollywood debut in the film “Lisa Frankenstein.” She is also set to star in “Forgotten Island” alongside Lea Salonga, Manny Jacinto, and H.E.R.
