It was one of those rainy Sunday nights in Davao that practically dares you to cancel your plans. But curiosity won, and I found myself weaving through Obrero, looking for Atmox Bar, still unsure what I’d gotten myself into.
Offline Hangout Davao is exactly what it sounds like: an event where you go offline. Phones are handed over at the start, voluntarily, and for a few hours, you’re left with nothing but real people, real conversations, and no option to scroll away. It’s organized by Loreen Buenavista, founder of Feminine Spark Studios, and it’s quietly growing into one of the city’s most refreshing social resets.
I brought a friend for moral support (and maybe an exit strategy). We chose the seats by the door just in case. But we didn’t need the escape plan.
What to Expect at Offline Hangout Davao

The vibe is lowkey. The facilitators explain what’s about to happen, then collect everyone’s phones; no drama, no locks, just a clean break from your feed. From there, you’re eased into group games and guided conversation starters meant to get people talking.
One of those games was Human Bingo, where you have to find people in the room who’ve done specific things: watched a certain show, traveled solo, tried a weird food combo. To win, you actually have to interact. And somehow, I won. Which shocked me, as someone who usually prefers to hang back in these situations.
What surprised me most was how quickly the awkwardness disappeared. People talked. Really talked. There were laughs, little inside jokes between strangers, and moments where the room felt surprisingly warm for a bunch of people who’d just met.
There’s something freeing about knowing that no one’s documenting anything. No pressure to post. No audience to perform for. Just people, in a room, being present.
Why It Works (Even for Introverts)
Offline Hangout doesn’t try to be deep or dramatic. It just gives you a break—a few hours away from the pressure of always being “on.” It’s not anti-technology. It’s just pro-human.
And if the idea of mingling with strangers in a bar feels overwhelming, they’ve thought of that too. Offline Hangout also runs more intimate café sessions, which are quieter, smaller, and better suited for those who want the same experience without the crowd.
How to Join the Next Offline Hangout in Davao
Offline Hangout is hosting three upcoming gatherings over the next few months, each designed to help you slow down, step away from your screen, and reconnect with yourself and others. Whether you’re looking for stillness, deeper conversations, or just a break from the usual scroll, here’s what’s coming up:
July 27 – Mindful Afternoon at Habits
Step into a space of quiet and calm. This session is all about taking time to reflect, reset, and share space with others doing the same.
August 23 – Mindful Afternoon at Café Chalet
A soft, grounded gathering meant to help you stay present. Expect slow conversations, light journaling, and a quiet return to yourself.
September 28 – Night Socials at Atmox Bar
Offline Hangout’s signature event returns. Think low lighting, natural conversations, and the kind of connection that lingers long after the night ends.
You can join one or join all. These aren’t just events; they’re intentional pauses. Each one is an invitation to disconnect from the noise and plug into something more meaningful.
I went in expecting to just observe. Maybe write about it. I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. But in a life that revolves around connection, disconnecting on purpose might be the thing that resets you the most.
Are you ready to disconnect?
Offline Hangout Davao proves that you don’t need a viral post, aesthetic background, or curated caption to feel connected. Sometimes all it takes is showing up—without your phone—and remembering how to be human again.
