This Guided Meditation in Davao Took Me From Breathwork to Breakdown—in the Best Way

Healing isn’t always quiet—sometimes it’s a shared cry in a hotel ballroom.

Most people walk into a wellness event expecting yoga poses and herbal tea. I walked into Moon Tribe Project’s guided experience at Dusit Davao’s Wellfest and ended up sitting on the ballroom floor, holding back tears, surrounded by strangers doing the same.

The invite listed breathwork, sound healing, intention setting, inner child healing, and intuitive painting. My instinct? Panic. I’m not one to share about emotions. I’d featured Moon Tribe Project before in my “7 Davao Communities That Will Make You Feel Less Alone” article, but had never stepped into one of their sessions. This time, I did—and what happened was far from what I expected.

From Intention to Release: The Real Flow of the Session

The ballroom at Dusit Thani Davao was dim, intimate, and already calming. At the center, a lush floral setup cradled crystal singing bowls. Guests formed a circle. Miss Hazel, the facilitator from Moon Tribe Project, opened with grounding prompts that didn’t tiptoe around emotion.

We were guided to breathe deeply and answer uncomfortable questions silently: When was the last time you felt happy? Imagine your younger self…

As our breaths slowed, the room filled with unspoken emotion. I quickly realized that I wasn’t the only one tearing up and I usually hate crying in front of people. But no one judged. No one stared. Everyone was processing their own trauma.

The Sound Bath and the Silence That Followed

After emotional release came stillness. The sound bath, played live in the ballroom, had an almost physical effect, like waves washing over everything that just surfaced.

For a few minutes, it felt like the room sighed together. People lay still. Breathing. Resetting.

Art Without Expectations: Intuitive Painting + Brunch

We ended with an intuitive painting session. No pressure, just expression. Just color. And then—brunch. Dusit Davao served a healthy spread, and their taho (yes, taho) was an unexpected highlight. No deep metaphors there. It was just really good.

Why This Session Was Worth It

I didn’t walk out “healed.” But I did meet the version of me that needed healing—and that’s a start.

The real takeaway? Emotional processing doesn’t need to be loud. Sometimes, it’s a circle of strangers in silence, breathing through what hurts and releasing what no longer serves.

Would I Do It Again?

Absolutely. Not because I want to cry in public more often—but because there’s power in being still, in letting your guard down, and in recognizing the parts of yourself you’ve been too busy to meet.

The Moon Tribe Project session wasn’t about fixing anything. It was about facing it. And sometimes, that’s enough.
