Kathang Guhit 2025: Davao Watercolor Society Unveils Its Newest Exhibit

For art lovers in Davao, Kathang Guhit isn’t just another exhibit; it’s a vivid celebration of stories told in pigment and water. Organized by the Davao Watercolor Society, this 5th annual showcase brings together 20 artists from across the city, each presenting a unique perspective through the delicate yet powerful medium of watercolor.

This year, the exhibit finds a bold new home at Poblacion Market Central, running from July 21 to August 4, 2025, and aligning with the global celebration of World Watercolor Month.

At its core, Kathang Guhit is about the connection between artist and subject, between viewer and emotion, between tradition and modern expression. Each piece in the exhibit was submitted by member artists through an open call, resulting in a curated lineup of 20 watercolor panels that showcase a diverse range of techniques, themes, and personal stories. From landscapes that feel like memory to portraits that linger with feeling, these works speak softly but leave a mark.

The decision to hold the exhibit at Poblacion Market Central is significant. Known for supporting homegrown creatives and hosting some of the city’s most community-driven events, Poblacion is slowly becoming Davao’s creative hub. Here, art isn’t hidden behind velvet ropes; it meets you where you are. It becomes part of your afternoon coffee run or your walk through the stalls. It invites conversation, even from those who didn’t expect to stumble upon an art exhibit that day.

Kathang Guhit invites viewers to pause, look closer, and consider the strength it takes to work with a medium that doesn’t allow erasure. Watercolor forces the artist to commit: to let go when needed, to be patient, to trust the flow. That discipline and vulnerability show in every piece.

By moving the exhibit into a public, accessible space and tying it into World Watercolor Month, the Davao Watercolor Society makes a powerful statement: art should be part of everyday life, not just something you seek out in formal galleries.

Admission is free, and the exhibit is open daily.

So if you’re in Davao this July or early August, don’t miss this. Kathang Guhit isn’t just a visual experience. It’s a reminder that even in a fast-moving world, there is value in slowing down to appreciate the beauty of something handmade, heartfelt, and human.
