The release of Chasing Happiness, the documentary centered on the Jonas Brothers, has done a hell of a job making us feel like it’s the mid-2000’s again. No other part more so than the focus on Miley Cyrus and her relationship with Nick Jonas. The couple known as “Niley” famously dated for about a year from 2006 to 2007. Their break-up resulted in the broken hearts of many fans, as well as their own.

At the time, their breakup seemed like the messiest and most dramatic event of our teenage lives. Miley’s release of her song 7 Things had everyone speculating that it was actually written for the curly haired Jonas Brother.
We thought that was the end of Niley until 2012 when Nick Jonas performed Wedding Bells at a concert. The song was rumored to be his heart-wrenching reaction to Miley’s then-engagement to Liam Hemsworth.
It fueled interest in the couple once again. Questions about their relationship and subsequent breakup were brought up a second time, with hopes for more clarity this time. Unfortunately, none were really given. More than 10 years later, it looks like fans are finally about to gain closure for that particular ‘ship’.

Nick starts by talking about how Miley actually made him closer to both Joe and Kevin. He first explains: “I think my brothers and I became the closest when we found a common ground beyond music and family — girls.”
Kevin jumps in by talking about what fame meant to them, in terms of getting dates: “When I was in high school, I couldn’t get a date no matter how much I tried. I could not get a date. After Disney Channel plays our [‘Year 3000’] music video, life immediately changes as a teenager for me. Me and Joe were, like, wing-manning each other constantly.”
Nick was able to join in on this kind of bonding once the group guest starred on Hannah Montana, sinceaccording to Kevin: “We got to be on the Hannah Montana episode on the Disney Channel. That changed girls for Nick forever. When he met Miley, I think that kid’s head exploded.”

This and more is confirmed by Nick when he says: “I started writing about love and I actually knew what it felt like. For the first time, I was asking them questions that only a younger brother can ask their older brothers.” The best part? Their hit song Lovebug was actually written by Nick for Miley!

Of course, Nick is now happily married to Priyanka Chopra as is Miley to Liam Hemsworth. It has been 12 years since their breakup and the two are obviously quite over it with no issues between them anymore. But this can serve as a sweet reminder of how our first loves can make such a lasting impression.
