Nic Chien opened up about his parents’ separation.

In an interview with Korina Sanchez, Nic addressed the speculation surrounding Lea Salonga and Robert Chien’s separation.
“My parents are on very good terms. My dad never cheated on my mom, number one. And my parents are still friends, number two. And they love each other, but they don’t love each other romantically,” he said. “They care about each other very much, and they both love me very much.”
The 19-year-old actor also said that he would support his parents if they chose to pursue separate relationships.
“They can both pursue relationships, and it’s totally fine with me. My dad is with another woman, a very lovely woman. She’s my stepmother and I love her very much. [It] doesn’t mean that I’m betraying my mom. I love my mom, of course, more because she’s my biological mom,” he explained.
“I love my parents and that’s all there is to say,” he asserted.
In January 2026, the 54-year-old theater star confirmed that she and her husband have been separated “for a while.”
“It’s not a secret. We’ve been separated for a while. And now he’s happy, and I’m happy that he’s happy,” Salonga said in an interview during a media conference for “Les Misérables: World Tour Spectacular.”
