Lea Salonga confirmed that she and her husband, Robert Chien, have been separated “for a while.”
During a media conference for “Les Misérables: World Tour Spectacular” in Parañaque City, she revealed the split between her and Robert.

“It’s not a secret. We’ve been separated for a while. And now he’s happy, and I’m happy that he’s happy,” Salonga said in an interview by MJ Marfori.
The Filipina theater legend also shared her honest feelings on motherhood and her son’s, Nic Chien, transition.
“We’re so happy that he knew what he wanted, and my job as his mom is to try and figure out how can I get these things done,” she explained. “I am aware there are folks that will not understand or have a very negative opinion of the decisions we have made for his health and for his own navigation of the world as a trans man. My only thing is I have to do what I need to do to help my child in the best way that I can.”
In 2025, she joined the Philippine production of “Into the Woods.”
Lea Salonga is set to make her much-awaited return to the stage as Madame Thérnardier in “Les Misérables: World Tour Spectacular.”
