Dunedin Airport in New Zealand has introduced a new sign imposing a three-minute limit on hugs in its drop-off zone. Since its installation, the three-minute hug limit has received mixed reactions from online users worldwide.
The sign also reads: “For fonder farewells, please use the car park.”

Dunedin Airport CEO Daniel De Bono explained that the hug time limit was imposed to keep things from “moving smoothly.”
“We are not here to tell people on how long they should hug for; it’s more of the message to please move on,” he said.
“You only need 20 seconds,” he added. “A 20-second hug is enough to release oxytocin.”
According to Dunedin Airport’s website, the drop-off zone was relocated to “improve traffic flow and safety around the terminal,” aiming to reduce traffic and congestion in the area.
