And another win for the Philippines!
After Hidilyn Diaz’s historic gold win in the Olympics last week, all eyes then turned to another amazing Filipina athlete—Nesthy Petecio. Team PH’s contender for the women’s featherweight boxing in Tokyo for Olympics 2020 was announced to have been assured of the medal, but the big question was, which one?
And today, the 29-year-old boxer from Davao del Sur did her whole country proud when she took home silver in the women’s featherweight. She lost to a close fight with Japan’s Sena Irie, who took home gold after a unanimous decision from the judges.

In an interview reported by Inquirer.net, Petecio said, “It means a lot to me because I dedicate this fight for my family, country and my best friend who died. I decicate this medal to my coaches, esp Nolito Velasco. He sacrificed a lot for this competition.”
The Olympic silver medalist continued, “This is an important tournament, not for me but for my country and coaches.”
Congratulations, Nesthy! We are so proud of you!
