“LeBron James is one of the greatest athletes in history. We will always be thankful for his eight years with the Lakers—including the title he led us to in 2020 under the toughest imaginable circumstances and the countless records he broke in purple and gold,” the statement read.

The basketball superstar began his NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers after being selected as the first overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. He played for the franchise until 2010 before joining the Miami Heat, where he spent four seasons from 2010 to 2014. James then returned to Cleveland, playing for the Cavaliers once again from 2014 to 2018.
In 2018, he signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, helping lead the franchise to several milestones, including its 17th NBA championship in 2020.
LeBron James is known as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, winning four NBA championships out of 10 NBA Finals appearances.
