From Yukata Dress-Ups to a Maguro Cutting Show: A Month-Long Japanese Festival Awaits as MITSUKOSHI BGC Turns 3

Can you believe it? MITSUKOSHI BGC is turning 3! Even more exciting, this year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Philippines. To celebrate, MITSUKOSHI BGC is hosting a month-long Japanese festival in the heart of BGC.

MITSUKOSHI BGC Turns 3

Since 2023, MITSUKOSHI BGC has been bringing Japan closer to home. This year’s celebration is inspired by Tanabata (Japan’s summer Star Festival), which tells the story of two lovers reunited after being separated by the Milky Way—a fitting tribute to the enduring friendship between Japan and the Philippines. From July to August, immerse yourself in a one-of-a-kind celebration where Japanese traditions and Filipino creativity come together in the heart of BGC.

Located at the podium of The Seasons Residences, here’s everything you can experience at MITSUKOSHI BGC’s biggest anniversary celebration yet!

Step Into a Japanese Festival Right in the Heart of BGC

First, you’ll be greeted by Mitsuko, MITSUKOSHI BGC’s beloved Kokeshi doll at the storefront, who is making her return with a fresh picture-perfect look! She’ll be wearing an outfit inspired by the colors of the Japanese and Philippine flags, symbolizing the special friendship between the two nations.

The festivities will officially kick off on July 16 at 5 PM on the ground floor of MITSUKOSHI BGC, with the roaring rhythms of a taiko drum performance to set the energy for the season ahead! This will be followed by a Mikoshi performance, a Japanese festival tradition that honors community and brings wishes of good fortune. Adding a modern touch, LIV Dance Academy will take the stage with a dynamic dance showcase.

Festival Highlights You Shouldn’t Miss

Making its much-awaited return is the Maguro Cutting Show at MITSUKOSHI FRESH on July 18 at 11:30 AM! Get a front-row look at this Japanese culinary tradition as a freshly caught tuna, shipped overnight, is expertly cut by third-generation Japanese fish dealer and international seafood exporter Kosuke Nakaoka. Coming from a family with over 80 years of experience in the seafood industry, Nakaoka carries generations of expertise in fish selection, auction bidding, and vendor relationships while bringing Japanese market traditions to a global audience.

Every Saturday from July 18 to August 15 (3 PM to 5 PM), eligible customers can stroll around MITSUKOSHI BGC in a yukata and capture picture-perfect moments throughout the mall! Eligible women shoppers aged 18 and above can enjoy yukata dressing, hairstyling, and light makeup care of MITSUKOSHI BEAUTY, with a dedicated backdrop available for photos. The experience is available with a minimum ₱2,500 single or accumulated receipt purchase from any MITSUKOSHI BGC store dated June 26 to August 15, 2026. Simply pre-book your preferred session through the electronic form.

Collectibles will host the Summer Paper Theater Activity featuring Ensky’s Japanese papercraft kits, while Pottery Sessions presents Ceramic Wishes: A Tanabata Pottery Experience the following day (August 30), where guests can create personalized ceramic pieces or try the pottery wheel.

Throughout August, visitors can also explore curated pop-ups featuring EDYA1929’s fashion pieces made from vintage Japanese kimonos and obi belts, as well as Frankie General Store’s modern designs crafted from woven Philippine textiles.
