The Philippines has another pageant crown under its belt: Miss Philippines Trixia Maria Maraña took home the Miss Asia crown earlier this week at Kochi, India.
This year’s Miss Asia is the second run, and aims to showcase the beauty of Asian and Eurasian women. For its inaugural competition, Filipina Alfe Marie Nathanile Uy was crowned first runner up.
This year’s runners up are Miss Belarus Yauheniya Vasilyeva and Miss India Ankita Kharat. The rest of the top 7 are from Azerbaijan, Moldova, Russia, and Singapore.
A total of 18 delegates competed for the crown: Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bhutan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Moldova, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tibet, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
Maraña, 23, hails from Dumaguete City, and is a banking assistant for a national bank. Prior to Miss Asia, she has competed in Miss Dumaguete City (2009) Miss Tourism Philippines (2010, 1st runner up), Abuyog Queen of Leyte (2011), Mutya ng Pilipinas (2014, finalist), Sinulog Queen de Kabankalan (1st runner up), and Miss Negros Oriental (2015).
For her win at Miss Asia, she was awarded 350,000 rupees (roughly P242,000) and a gold-plated crown.
