After being recognized in the international film landscape, Maris Racal’s film Sunshine is finally making its way to Philippine cinemas.

On June 3, Project 8 Projects announced that the coming-of-age film will hit local cinemas with an R-16 rating. However, the film’s exact theatrical release is yet to be announced.

“NO CUTS PO TAYO OPO! Basta 16 years old pataas puwedeng puwede manood ng (There are no cuts! As long as you’re 16-years-old and above, you can watch) #SunshineMovie. COMING SOON IN PHILIPPINE CINEMAS THIS JULY 2025,” the post read.
Written and directed by Antoinette Jadaone, Sunshine follows the story of a young gymnast who suddenly discovers she is pregnant on the week of the national team tryouts. Aside from Maris, the film also featured Elijah Canlas, Xyriel Manabat, Meryll Soriano, Jennica Garcia, and Annika Co.
The sports drama film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. It was also a part of the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Moreover, it received a nomination for Best Youth Film at the 17th Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
In February, it won the prestigious Crystal Bear for Best Film in the Generation 14plus section at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale). This award is given to films that showcase outstanding storytelling about the coming-of-age stories and perspectives of the youth.
