Maris Racal couldn’t hold back tears after seeing the trailer for her upcoming film, “Sunshine.” On Instagram, the singer-actress shared her heartfelt reaction watching the trailer ahead of the film’s world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
The video captured Maris’ raw emotion. She was covering her mouth as she cried while watching the trailer on the television. “Naiyak talaga ako [I really cried],” she said.
“Di ako makapaniwala na natapos na namin ang pelikulang ‘Sunshine’ pagkatapos ng halos isang taon. Saludo sa mga bumubuo ng pelikulang ito, lalo na kay Direk Tonet na ilang taon itong trinabaho [I can’t believe that we have finished the film ‘Sunshine’ after almost a year. Salute to everyone behind this film, especially to Director Tonet who has been working on it for several years],” she captioned her post.
“Hanga ako sa dedikasyon at puso ng mga kasama ko rito. Para ito sa kababaihan at sa kanilang karapatang magpasya para sa sarili at sa kanilang katawan [I admire the dedication and passion of my colleagues. This is for women and their right to decide for themselves and their bodies].”

Maris then expressed her pride in having “Sunshine” featured at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and showcasing a Filipino film on an international platform.
“Sunshine” follows the story of a young gymnast who gets pregnant just before her national team tryouts. It is directed by Antoinette Jadaone and produced by ANIMA Studios and Project 8 Projects. The film also stars Elijah Canlas, Meryll Soriano, Jennica Garcia, and Xyriel Manabat.
The 2024 Toronto International Film Festival will be held from September 5 to 15 in Toronto, Canada. Unfortunately, Maris has announced on X that she won’t be able to attend the world premiere due to a scheduling conflict.
