BRB, shoving breadsticks in my purse.
ICYMI, the breadsticks meme was a series of date parodies that ended with the person stuffing complimentary breadsticks in their purse before making a run for it. It went viral last 2015 when Tumblr user @chrisprattsgf posted this exchange, garnering more than 67,600 notes.
But somewhere in the middle, netizens began associating Olive Garden as the restaurant where the breadstick hoarding took place. A casual dining restaurant that serves Italian-American dishes like pizza and pasta in a Tuscan-inspired farmhouse setting, Olive Garden’s claim to fame first began when they offered unlimited salad to patrons. Eventually, they branched out to include unlimited soup and you guessed it— unlimited breadsticks.
To date, Olive Garden is one of the largest restaurant chains in the US with over 800 stores in Canada and the US alone, along with international franchises in Brazil, Kuwait, UAE, and Guam. And this coming year, Olive Garden is coming to the Philippines, all thanks to The Bistro Group.
Known for bringing in famous US brands like TGIFriday’s, Red Lobster and Hard Rock Cafe, The Bistro Group got dibs on the franchise for Olive Garden, believing that their hearty, flavorful and large portions will be a hit with the local market. And their executives have revealed that Olive Garden’s first branch will be located down south, specifically at the Ayala Mall Manila Bay.
Originally scheduled to begin operations by late last year, The Bistro Group now forecasts that the first branch of Olive Garden will be open to the public during the first quarter of this year.
