One of the queens we’re looking forward to seeing in the fifth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars is Ongina, who joined the first Drag Race in 2009.
One of the reasons we’re looking forward to her return is that she’s a Filipina queen who has embraced her heritage. Trivia: her original drag name is P*k P*k Galore before changing it to Ongina, because her boy name is Ryan Ong Palao, and well, she doesn’t have the latter part of her drag name. The asterisk in her original drag name also refers to the second syllable of Ongina.
World of Wonder has released the All Stars 5 queens’ entrance looks and we cheered loudly when we saw Ongina in a beautiful outfit. It’s no surprise that she tapped a Filipino designer to create it for her!
Patrick Isorena, who designs under his label STARR Creations, took inspiration from the 7,000+ islands of the Philippines to create Ongina’s look. According to Isorena, he was also inspired by the local superhero Darna to make this an outfit representative of “all mighty Pinoy heroes.”
My Filipino Fans. Im sorry for the explanation for this look! Please udrstnd I only meant to represent. To clarify – inspired by a number of diff. costumes from our country AND Darna to represent beauty, strength and individuality. Super hero like. Super proud of this outfit. https://t.co/K0Sjj3lfic

Ongina also talked about her look on Twitter, saying she was “inspired by a number of different costumes from our country and Darna to represent beauty, strength, and individuality. Superhero-like. Super proud of this outfit.”
Okay y’all but the pristine INTRICACY of this costume is insane! The amount of time and love that went into the construction of this wearable art is evident AF! I am so happy for @ongina , We Stan. This is one of those pieces drag queens dream about wearing one day ??? https://t.co/xw63T3ZUKd

Farrah Moan, a fellow queen who competed in the ninth season of the main show and the fourth season of All Stars had this to say, “Okay y’all but the pristine INTRICACY of this costume is insane! The amount of time and love that went into the construction of this wearable art is evident AF! I am so happy for Ongina, we stan. This is one of those pieces drag queens dream about wearing one day.“
RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 5 will premiere on June 5.
