LOOK: Catriona Gray inspired fans to recreate her portrait on a rice field

Miss Universe Catriona Gray may not be a stranger to receiving (amazing) fan art but this time it’s on a whole other level. A team of 50 workers, led by the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), have been working to produce this rice paddy art for nearly a month. Now, the portrait of Catriona Grays spans over a whole rice field in Muñoz City, Nueva Ecija.

The PhilRice team who spearheaded the project explained in an interview with ABS-CBN that they first created a pattern from one of Catriona’s photographs. To put the pattern to use, they utilized two kinds of seedlings: green and purple. Obviously, the contrast between the two is what makes the outline of her image.

This is actually not the first time that FutureRice Farm has created rice paddy art. Other popular works they’ve done was a portrait of Piolo Pascual, and another of KathNiel (Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla). Aside from paying homage to these figures, tributes like this are aimed at attracting the attention of the public. They hope to raise awareness of the virtues of farming. They especially hope to inspire others to take on or explore rice farming.
