Is Nintendo Going to Release a New Switch Model This Year?

Despite Nintendo already releasing a new version of the Nintendo Switch in 2019, rumors continued to persist that they’ll be dropping another one this year. Now, Nintendo has finally put an end to all the hearsay.

Nintendo CEO and president Shuntaro Furukawa has officially announced that the company has “no plans” to release a new Nintendo Switch model this 2020.

“According to the conventional wisdom for dedicated video game platforms, Nintendo Switch should be entering the midway phase of the hardware lifecycle,” Furukawa said. “But we believe we have built a foundation on which we can pursue further growth opportunities for Nintendo Switch.”

This news doesn’t come as a surprise especially after Nintendo just released a refreshed model with better battery life plus the Nintendo Switch Lite last year, both of which have improved their numbers overall.

They did, however, redirect focus to their upcoming Animal Crossing-themed console to go with the much-awaited release of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons game.
