According to John Maxwell, there are 21 traits of a good leader. I say the three major ones are consistency, compassion, and charisma – and I think, all of these traits are seen in our current President Rodrigo Duterte.

Speaking of charisma and compassion, President Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte visited our soldiers at the AFP Medical Center in Quezon City.

According to Philippine Star’s report, Pres. Duterte couldn’t contain his emotions when he saw our soldiers – who fought courageously for the country.

Particularly, the touching story of Army 2nd Lt. Jerome Jacuba, who lost his sight when an explosive device went off during a recent battle in Maguindanao.

Army 2nd Lt. Jacuba is one of the 69 soldiers confined at the Armed Forces of Philippines Medical Center. He proudly told Duterte he would love to serve the country but the accident made it impossible to do so, reported Philippine Star.

Furthermore, Jacuba will be undergoing rehabilitation and soon will learn the Braille system of reading, as life must go on.

And, judging how Digong talks and makes funny comments, I am pretty sure Digong might have cracked a joke with him. Hence, the touching image. Nevertheless, the gesture of making them smile and laugh is the best medicine our soldiers could have for the meantime.

Most importantly, the report says that the President will offer financial assistance and reassured that he “won’t abandon them.” It was also reported, he invited them to dinner in Malacañang.

We have a common saying that “actions speak louder than words.” He may have the tendency to trash-talk, but he does what he knows best – serve.

Good on you, Mr. President. I hope to see more actions like this in the coming days, Sir.
