Just a few days ago, Disney announced that they had finally cast the lead actress in the live-action remake of Mulan, and it’s 30-year-old Chinese actress Yifei Liu!
Disney posted these photos of Yifei on their Weibo account, a popular Chinese social media website.
Yifei’s casting has allayed audience fears that Disney would not cast an actress of Chinese or Asian heritage in the role, as has been the case in other Hollywood movies such as the live-action version of the manga “Ghost in the Shell”, which starred Scarlett Johansson.
The popular Chinese actress, who grew up in New York City, was chosen among 1,000 other candidates for the role. Mulan won’t be her first action movie, though. If her stunning face looks familiar, that’s because she starred alongside Michael Angarano, Jet Li and Jackie Chan in the movie “The Forbidden Kingdom”.

Photos of Yifei made the rounds on popular Chinese social media platform Weibo, including a fanart of her alongside animated Mulan, as well as images from a styled warrior shoot, supposedly from the August 2017 issue of Cosmopolitan China.
Mulan is set to premiere in theaters in 2019.
