Happy Duck House: An Underrated Local Restaurant in Bangkok

For those who love duck, this is the place for you. While som tum, tom yum, khao soi, and pad kra prow are dishes you should try while you’re in Thailand, you should also explore other Thai favorites. Happy Duck House is a great place to start.

Happy Duck House in Surawong

Happy Duck House is a small local shop in Surawong that most Bangkokians aren’t even aware of. It’s a bit out of the way from the main road, so you can either take an 8 to 10-minute walk from Chongnonsi BTS or take a Grab/Bolt ride to get there.

However, the reward will be great. Despite not being top of mind when it comes to “best duck places”, Happy Duck House serves amazing duck dishes that will satisfy your taste buds.

The Ambiance

Happy Duck House looks like a normal shophouse with its old interior and limited seating. You will be greeted by their friendly staff as soon as you arrive. This helps make it a lovely experience to interact with the locals.

You can sit inside where there are fans to cool you down. If the weather is nice, you can opt to sit outside where you can feel the city breeze under the (hopefully not too strong) sun.

The Price

The price range is very reasonable for what they serve. Ducks are normally a bit pricier compared to other dishes, but meals start at only THB 60.

Before you dismiss the idea, the quality of the duck here is superb. You won’t get any unwanted gamey taste that most people don’t like and can just savor the soft meat at its finest.

They prepare everything in an open kitchen, so you can see how well-prepared your orders are. It’s a sight to behold, especially if you want to immerse yourself in the Bangkok culinary scene.

The Menu

You have various options at Happy Duck House. They have Duck Noodles priced at THB 60 or THB 80 depending on the size. You have five noodle types to choose from: Flat Rice, Egg, Flat Egg, Rice, and Vermicelli. This is refreshing to the taste buds with a burst of duck flavor in every sip of the soup.

Want something more savory? Go for the Stewed Duck with Rice (THB 60/80). The sauce goes well with the duck meat and complements the hot rice perfectly. This is outstanding for its price!

Don’t like too much sauce? Go for the Pad Kra Pow Duck (THB 60/80). This one is sliced duck meat stir-fried with soy sauce, basil leaves, and more. It’s a classic but with a (quacky) twist!

In case you’re not a fan of duck, they have other options as well, such as pork and chicken.
