Did These GMA News Anchors Wear ABS-CBN Colors As A Show Of Solidarity?

A photo showing GMA News anchors Pia Arcangel, Vicky Morales, and Atom Araullo during their Tuesday night live newscast recently went viral on social media. The trio were wearing outfits in red, green, and blue which many pointed out are the 3 colors of rival broadcast network ABS-CBN.

Netizens picked up on this detail and immediately began speculating that the outfits were deliberately chosen by the GMA News anchors to signify solidarity with ABS-CBN. Arcangel was wearing an A-line sequined red and blue dress, Morales was in a green boatneck dress, while Araullo chose a classic blue suit for their broadcast of primetime news program 24 Oras.

One of the more popular posts going around Twitter and Facebook captioned the capture of the three: “Did… did the 24 Oras reporters really wear ABS-CBN’s theme colors??? Is this a coincidence??? Is this media solidarity??? My heart is soft.”

Actress Lea Salonga similarly weighed in on the outfit choice, saying: “Looks like solidarity to me!”

Talks of solidarity among media has risen due to Solicitor General Jose Calida’s filing of a quo warranto petition before the Supreme Court. The petition calls for the cancellation of the ABS-CBN’s franchise. It has sparked discussions on press freedom and abuse of power.
