Dingdong Dantes Defends ABS-CBN In Face Of Quo Warranto Petition

Solicitor General Jose Calida has filed a Quo Warranto petition against ABS-CBN in order to revoke their franchise. This was done on the basis of the TV network allegedly violating terms set by Congress when approving its franchise in 1995. GMA 7 actor Dingdong Dantes showed support for the rival network on Twitter last Tuesday night.

He began by saying that despite coming from a different network, “we are one in the media industry. We have one love for the many talents and crafts under this Network, the products and output of which, directly or indirectly, benefit the lives of millions of Filipinos.”

His series of tweets continued by quoting Buhay Partylist congressman Lito Atienza who spoke in congress regarding ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal: “Inaction will only spell the weakening of the foundations of our democratic system. This Congress is really paralyzed with inaction; and we should not be deserving to be called representatives of the people.”

“In the end, I pray that the true interests of the people, under the rule of law, will prevail over any other political agenda conveniently veiled as a countermeasure against alleged abuses,” Dingdong finished.

According to Rappler, Dingdong also posted a more explicit statement of support, saying  “I pray too that the government, thru Congress, will hear out its constituents. After all, Congress is supposed to represent our “voice.” #NoToABSCBNShutDown.” However, the tweet has now been deleted.
