Breast Cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women around the world. In fact, one out of thirteen women in the Philippines develops Breast Cancer. Since its launch in 1992, the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade has been influential around the world. For this year’s breast cancer awareness month, as the leading company for women celebrates its 130 years, Avon aims to reach 130 million steps to increase the awareness and to curb the growing cases of Breast Cancer in the country.

In line with this, the Junior Marketing Association of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D JMA) together with Avon Philippines and its tie-up organizations and councils in the university, hosted an event entitled: “GET PINKED 2016: DLSU-D Walk of Awareness on Breast Cancer.” The event is a “walk with a cause”-inspired Walkathon activity that encouraged more than 2,000 students to participate, be aware of the realities of Breast Cancer and compel them to take action against this disease.  Furthermore, funds that were collected through this activity will be given to the Breast Cancer Foundation of De La Salle University Medical Center.

The said event was held at De La Salle University-Dasmariñas Oval and Campus last October 14, 2016. Tickets were priced P150 which consist of race bibs, kits and freebies from Avon and major sponsors Camp Hype, Throb, Sketchers, Pony, and Gardenia.

The program started with a parade lead by the DLSU-D Symphonic Band, followed by an informative talk about breast cancer by AVON Philippines representative Dawn Niekamp.

The highlight of this event aside from collecting 3 million steps was the human formation of pink ribbon formation to show the support of the entire DLSU-D community to this cause.

There were also performances from The Authority, Lasallian Pointes N Flexes, and DJ Josh Tiu who hyped the students with his music performance as they walk around the university oval to contribute their steps.

In light of Get Pinked, the entire DLSU-D community needs to reach 3 million steps out of the 130 million steps that Avon is aiming.  On October 1, Avon Philippines launched an app for Android and IOS which has the objective to count your steps with the goal of getting 130 million steps

For it to be counted by Avon, daily steps of the user must be shared through social media with the hashtag #DLSUD3MillionSteps. The Get Pinked Pedometer App can be used throughout October. As the program comes to an end, an advocate with the most number of steps gathered since day one was awarded with prizes from the sponsors. Nine others were recognized and awarded.

Showing that it walks the talk, Avon, the company for women, sends a strong statement that there’s no greater purpose than for people to lend their strength and courage to buoy up and keep the hopes up of those affected by the disease.

By the end of this event, Avon, alongside with DLSU-D Junior Marketing Association, had the purpose to inspire everyone to join the battle against breast cancer.

Let us walk hand in hand. Together, we can win this!
