Restaurants come and go in the Metro all the time. In fact, it is quite rare to find a restaurant nowadays that has been around for a long time, let alone more than two decades. Gerry’s Restaurant and Bar, more commonly known as Gerry’s Grill, is one of the restaurants that has withstood the test of time. This month, they celebrate their 23rd birthday! (Quite a feat seeing as we have some readers who weren’t even alive yet 23 years ago.)
The first Gerry’s Restaurant and Bar first opened its doors in Tomas Morato last February 14, 1997. Such an apt time to open it, too – on the day of love since so may people have already grown to love Gerry’s Grill through the years. Originally, their goal was to be a spot for friends to unwind after work, so they were only open during the late afternoon. Soon thereafter, though, people started to come in with their families for lunch to enjoy good food, so Gerry’s decided to start operating during lunchtime, as well.
Although Gerry’s Grill initially catered to the Gen X market, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to see people of all ages dining at their establishments. I still remember the first time I went to Gerry’s Grill when I moved here a decade ago. It was for a high school reunion and yet there were families dining there, as well as millennials drinking the night away.
You really can’t blame people for loving Gerry’s, though. After all, they have a great ambience that is consistent throughout all of their branches, as well as delicious food and drinks to match. While many have tried to follow in their footsteps, Gerry’s Grill has maintained its uniqueness for those very reasons.
So far, Gerry’s already has more than a hundred stores – which is great. Since they can be found in every major dining and entertainment hub in Metro Manila, you won’t have to search far and wide for one just to satisfy your cravings. There’s also a certain type of comfort that comes with seeing your favorite restaurant and bar in unfamiliar places because it gives you that sense of feeling at home, don’t you agree?
Even with so many food fads jumping into the market within the past two decades, like samgyupsal and food parks; Gerry’s Grill held its own with their their Filipino-themed menu. They also have great pulutan that is simply perfect for an inuman session with the barkada.
Their bestsellers are their delicious Sizzling Sisig, Beef Kare-Kare and Inihaw na Pusit; but we also highly recommend trying their Tinomok, Kilawin Puso ng Saging, and Adobo Pork Ribs!

Gerry’s has recently opened its branches in San Diego, California and Houston, Texas, a good addition to its overseas chain, which includes branches in Singapore, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Avenida, a modern Filipino restaurant and bar, inspired by the Avenida Rizal (Rizal Avenue) of the post-war era, is another Gerry’s Grill-owned restaurant that opened in San Mateo, California.
