According to a recent study made by Academic Journal Social Forces, only 6% of adults ended up in the careers they dreamt about as kids. While some might argue that childhood dreams are ultimately futile, this is not the obvious case for Ryan Chris Baylen.
R Y A N C H R I S House of Fashion started as “Ryan Chris Gown Rentals” in the outskirts of Sta. Ana, Manila Philippines, where the Advertising and PR graduate Ryan Chris Baylen in his 20s started his hopes to build a fashion label under his name. “My first investment was a gown I bought for Php1,000, that was initially rented for a prom at Php500,” says Ryan Chris Baylen, CEO and President of R Y A N C H R I S House of Fashion.
According to Alexander John Rico, Ryan’s childhood best friend and classmate, this was Ryan’s life-long dream. “I remember him sketching gowns way back in our elementary days,” he reminisces. Life is full of unknown twists, unexpected turns, moments of frustrations, and triumphs. That is the balance of life. It is true that there are no keys to success because the doors are always open to those who are determined to outgrow the challenges and believe in the capacity of their hearts to fulfill their dreams.
“Though failure is constant and present in every step, it allowed me to stay grounded and continue to aspire for more,” shares Ryan Chris. Just like everyone else, Ryan Chris had his own share of life’s failures. He faced several job interviews (he failed). He even opened his own printing shop (and failed again) until he went on to pursue his dream. Ricmer Francisco, Ryan’s best friend and classmate recalls Ryan crying over the phone, saying nothing. “It’s all in the past now, though,” says Ricmer. “I am quite sure that he’s happy with how everything turned out.”
Myra Jarabe, Admin Manager of R Y A N C H R I S House of Fashion, shares how passionate Ryan is about his craft and how he won’t rest until he reached close to perfection down to the intricate details. This can be seen in his stunning collection shown during the Ofrendas de Flores last February 3, 2019, at One Esplanade in Pasay.
“Stunning, unexpected and a rebellious portrayal of wedding gowns and entourage, this is the future of the wedding gown industry in Asia,” says Yhuong Botor, Director Ofrendas de Flores.
From one gown rented at Php500, Ryan Chris has been able to create custom-made wedding gowns for hundreds of happy brides. “My wedding gown was worth every hard-earned penny. Plus, it went beyond my expectations because of the excellent service before and on the day of my wedding,” says 2018 bride Aliza del Valle. “It’s true that sometimes we want to
embrace the convenient life, but let me be a living testament that dreams do come true,” ends Ryan Chris.
