Family Travel Guide: 4D3N in Hong Kong

When planning a family trip, Hong Kong is one of the most common places that comes to mind. It’s easy to get to, visa-free for Philippine passport holders, and a pretty easy country to navigate and there is so much to do.

We’ve been to Hong Kong many times but this is the first time we are traveling with a toddler and I quickly realized that itineraries should be “kid-friendly” for hassle-free travel.

Let’s start with the flights!

Hong Kong flights are not too expensive especially if you book flights a few months ahead of your intended travel. We booked ours almost 3 months before our flight and the best value-for-money flights we found are from Cebu Pacific. We also loved the time options as the flight from Manila leaves in the morning so we still have the whole day to explore while the flight back to Manila leaves at night so we can still get the most out of our last day in Hong Kong.

Since there have been airport issues in the past, we wanted to come super early to the airport but since we are traveling with a toddler, we opted to go just 2 hours before our flight and just check in online so we just need to do a bag drop and immigration at the airport.

Speaking of baggage! Make sure you purchase your baggage allowance online since it is 70% cheaper when you do. You can add baggage online 2 hours before your flight. And in case you go over your baggage allowance, you can upgrade each of your baggage online by a minimum of 4kg. For those traveling with a stroller, you can bring your stroller up to the boarding gate. You can either put it in the overhead bin when you board or you can leave it by the door and the ground personnel will check in your stroller after boarding.

Pro Tip! Fill up your forms before going to the airport so you can go smoothly through the immigration. Just make sure you have everything you need (in case it needs to be checked) like Flight details to and from, hotel details, and itinerary.

Cebu Pacific has new aircraft that we got to try during our Hong Kong trip. The plane was bright, clean, and updated compared to the old fleet. Usually, families with toddlers have priority boarding but we opted to board last so our toddler won’t get bored or restless. Luckily, the whole trip was a breeze and we safely landed in Hong Kong. Below is the complete itinerary and costs.

Day 1

5:00 AM Online Check-in via the Cebu Pacific App and Bag Drop at the Airport
6:00 AM Airport Breakfast and Pick up Wi-Fi at NAIA Terminal 3 (Booked via Klook)
10:00 AM Arrival in Hong Kong | Pickup octopus card for MRT, take airport express to Disneyland Resort
11:00 AM Lunch

The first day in Hong Kong was chill and in preparation for the next days. We pre-booked everything that we needed from Klook to make sure that we have a seamless experience and will not waste any time during our travel.

You can book a WiFi, Octopus card (for MRT, 7eleven, McDo, etc), Airport Express (Train ride to main MRT stations), and Theme park tickets via Klook. You can click the links above in the itinerary to book 🙂 The Wifi can be picked up at NAIA before you leave while the Octopus card can be picked up at Hong Kong Airport. When you book your Airport Express tickets, the QR code that will be generated in the app can be scanned directly on the turnstiles upon exit. Use the code BetterOnApp to get 5% Off for Klook App Bookings. You can check out offers, activities, and all that you need for your upcoming trip below:

Pro Tip! If you are traveling with a child, bring a stroller! Hong Kong means A LOT of walking and our little ones can get easily tired. If you didn’t bring a stroller, there is a stroller rental at theme parks that you can use within the vicinity. But if you are on a budget, bring your stroller 🙂

Our trip revolved around Hong Kong Disneyland so we planned to be there for 2 days. For convenience, we stayed at Hong Kong Disneyland’s Disney Explorers Lodge. If you are staying at their hotels, there are free shuttle services to and from the theme park and hotel. This is super convenient especially if you are traveling with children.

We also had our meals inside the theme park and if you are traveling with children, we highly suggest the Starliner Diner that is located Tomorrowland inside the theme park. The Marvel-themed Starliner Diner serves American-style fried chicken baskets and hamburgers that the kids will surely love. For quick snacks, the Lucky Nugget Saloon located in Grizzly Gulch has kid faves like golden chicken nuggets, fish, and chips while multiple stalls offer Mickey Mouse waffles and ice cream.

Don’t miss the Disneyland Fireworks show because it’s extra special as they celebrate their 100 years!!

After a long day of going around Hong Kong Disney Land, you can relax at the Disney Explorers Lodge. The hotel is cute and cozy. It has everything that a family needs and there are character interactions throughout our stay. Donald Duck joined us for breakfast and you can see Mickey and Minnie Mouse going around the hotel. There is also a gift shop, play areas, and a swimming pool that the family will surely enjoy.

Day 2

9:00 AM- 10:00 AM Breakfast at the Hotel
11:00 AM Check-out *leave luggage at the Hotel
11:00 AM-5:00 PM Hong Kong Disneyland and Lunch
5:00 PM Pick-up luggage and Check-in at Xi Hotel Tsim Sha Tsui
6:00-8:00 PM Dinner and Free Time

Day 2 was pretty much chill. We want to take our time for everything since we have enough time during the 4-day trip. It’s also because the first day is pretty packed so the 2nd day can be more spontaneous.

HKDL World of Frozen Anna and Elsa

Our day 2  included Hong Kong Disneyland again because we were not able to go to all the attractions we wanted to try out. Luckily, the lines were not too long and we were able to go to the ones we loved and wanted to go back to. We also got a chance to visit the newly opened Frozen attraction where we saw Queen Elsa and Anna going around Arrendale.

HKDL World of Frozen Landscape Day time 2

We opted to move to TST for our hotel so we are near other activities etc. We booked Xi Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui which is near the MRT, malls, fast food chains, convenience stores, money changers, and even pharmacies.

Xi Hotel is pretty good for its price and we loved how friendly and accommodating the staff is. Our toddler wasn’t feeling so well the night we checked in and the staff were so nice to offer looking for meds and pointing us to the nearest pharmacy or hospital in case we needed it.

If you want to explore other hotels in TST, you can check out Ramada, Hyatt Regency, and Dash Living.

Day 3

9:00 AM- 10:00 AM Breakfast
10:00 AM-12:00 NN Free time and Lunch
1:00 PM-6:00 PM Hong Kong Ocean Park
7:00 PM- 9:00 PM Dinner and Free Time

For Day 3 we made sure that this day will be dedicated to Hong Kong Ocean Park. We’ve been there before and we regret that we didn’t spend enough time there. So this time we spent most of the day there to discover the animals and enjoy the theme park.

A stroller is a must at Hong Kong Ocean Park because there’s a looooot of walking. But this is also a great place to visit because you can also ride the cable car to go to the other end of the theme park and see a beautiful view of Hong Kong.

We spent half of the time in the animals area and half at the theme park. Don’t forget to visit the Pandas and penguins!

Day 4

9:00 AM- 10:-00 AM Breakfast and Check-out *leave luggage at the Hotel
10:00 AM- 1:00 PM Legoland Discovery Center and Lunch
1:00 PM- 3:00 PM Shopping at Outlet Stores
4:00 PM Travel to the Airport
5:00 PM Check-in for flight
6:00 PM Dinner at Airport
7:00-9:00 PM Flight to Manila
9:00 PM Return Wi-Fi

For the last day, the agenda was to visit the Legoland Discovery Hong Kong. We haven’t been here so we didn’t know what to expect but it was a pretty cool place to visit and it’s pretty small so you can just take your time and enjoy. It started with the amazing lego displays, play areas, and interactive attractions. There’s a ride and a 3D theater!

After that, we went straight to the outlet stores near the airport. We shopped there and stayed for some snacks before taking a cab to the airport.
