EJ Obiena made everyone proud as he bagged his third consecutive gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championship.

Held in Gumi, South Korea, EJ defended his crown as the reigning Asian pole vault champion by successfully clearing 5.77 meters in a jump-off against China’s Huang Bokai, who took silver. Meanwhile, Thailand’s Patsapong Amsamarng claimed the bronze with a 5.67-meter vault.

“Crown defended!” the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) wrote in an Instagram post. “Congratulations to Ernest Obiena for bringing home the [gold medal] at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships with the jump of 5.77m.”
“We are proud of you! #ParaSaBayan,” it added.
He claimed his first gold medal in Dubai in 2019, then repeated the feat in 2023 in Bangkok, where he set the Asian Championships record with a 5.91m vault.
Following this outstanding accomplishment, the two-time Olympian took to Instagram to share his win with his fans and followers.

The year 2025 is shaping up to be a remarkable one for the world No. 3 pole vaulter. In February, he won a gold medal at the Orlen Copernicus Cup in Poland, clearing 5.80 meters in three attempts. Moreover, he secured victory at the Meeting Metz Moselle Athlelor in France, where he cleared 5.70 meters.
He also clinched gold with a 5.50-meter vault at the Taiwan International Pole Vault, where he faced the competition head-on despite the fog.
