Eggnog, Gingerbread and More Christmas Specials at Mrs. Graham’s Cafe

When In Manila, Christmas is celebrated in a variety of ways with a variety of traditions in different parts of the world. Here in the Philippines, it’s considered one of the longest holidays as it often starts the moment the “ber” months set in. Here, we celebrate Christmas with our own set of traditions like Simbang Gabi and favorite Christmas treats such as puto bumbong, bibingka, ham, etc. Meanwhile in the western countries, Christmas is celebrated with their own traditions which mostly include a cup of EGGNOG.

Where to find in Manila

I love Christmas and I tend to embrace a variety of Christmas traditions just to really feel the spirit of Christmas. Eggnog is something I often hear about when watching Christmas movies or TV specials. My curiosity grew and I started looking for Eggnog in Manila. What is eggnog anyway? “Eggnog, or egg nog, is a sweetened dairy-based beverage traditionally made with milk and/or cream, sugar, and whipped eggs. Spirits such as brandy, rum or bourbon are often added. – Wikipedia” Unfortunately, eggnog is not that famous yet in Manila. In fact, very little people know about it. Which is why I was ecstatic to hear my favorite macaron cafe, Mrs. Graham’s has decided to include it in their menu this holiday season.

I’ve tried eggnog once before. It was ‘okay’ but didn’t really have that taste of Christmas. Mrs. Graham’s eggnog on the other hand had ‘CHRISTMAS’ all over it. The creamy taste, the silky texture, the warmth, the smell… hmm… Christmas in a cup! If you prefer, you can also add a shot of coffee or rum. Both complemented well with the eggnog, especially the rum. I totally didn’t expect the sweet taste after mixing it together. Just don’t mix too much in or it’ll end up too sweet and no longer ‘eggnog-like’.

Besides the delicious eggnog drink, Mrs. Graham’s also introduced a couple of new macaron flavors for this holiday season.

The three different flavors each have their own touch of Christmas in every bite. I strongly suggest you try all three this holiday season! What I’ve always loved with Mrs. Graham’s macarons are how each macaron flavor would always taste like the real thing… just with a different texture. So if they’ve got ‘bibinka’ flavored macarons, you can be sure those macarons will taste exactly like bibingka! I was very happy with my macarons, especially with the peppermint macaron! Not a fan of minty desserts but I think I’ll make an exception for this one.

Besides the Christmas flavors, we couldn’t leave without trying some of their new menu items as well. The Oreo milkshake was divine! It tasted like a dozen Oreos crushed together with that white Oreo filling on top. We loved it! This milkshake is better shared than drank alone as it can be pretty sweet. The Smores were also absolutely delicious. I love smores so I may be kinda biased! (hehe) Just a little tip, these two (Oreo Milk Shake and Smores Cup) weren’t exactly the perfect combination. They were both really sweet and would be better paired with something else such as coffee or the ensaymada macaron.
