“At long last, esports!”
This is how the University Athletic Association of the Philippines or UAAP started its post last August 6th, as it gears up for the opening of season 87 on September 7, 2024. It was announced earlier this year that e-sports will now officially be part of UAAP tournaments, although the first-ever league will be held this August, between seasons 86 and 87.
UAAP Executive Director Rebo Saguisag told ALL-STAR in an interview that e-sports was intended to be launched during season 86, but due to “logistics and internal changes,” had to be postponed. “Whether you consider it as Season 86 or 87, it doesn’t matter but it is something we can look forward to,” he added.
All eight UAAP universities are reported to be competing: Adamson University, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, Far Eastern University, National University, University of the East, University of the Philippines Diliman, and the University of Santo Tomas. The teams will be competing in three exciting games, namely NBA 2k, Valorant, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
