Dutiful Dog Waits For Caretaker Who Passed Away Then Stands Vigil At Casket

Professor Carmelito Marcelo was not Buboy the dog’s owner, per se. He didn’t live with Buboy, didn’t bathe him, and never officially adopted him. But he was Buboy’s human. They would play together and spend the day together. He was the closest thing an owner that Buboy had.

Buboy was often seen on the campus grounds of Mabalacat City College in Pampanga. It was about 3 years ago that Marcelo formed a bond with the sweet stray. He would bring Buboy food and play with him. Soon, Buboy would be seen waiting by the faculty room for Marcelo to arrive, then outside his classrooms or next to his desk as he taught.

It was this scene that caused Marcelo’s colleague to take pity on Buboy after days of waiting for his caretaker by the faculty room. Ma. Kristina Paola Demafelix brought Buboy to Marcelo’s wake after he passed away from a heart attack. Buboy seemed to have understood what happened, as he peered into Marcelo’s coffin. He also chose to lay down and keep vigil next to his caretaker for the last time.

Demafelix assured GMA that Buboy would continue to be taken care of and allowed to remain within the school’s campus.
