Dipasupil: Artisanal Longanisa from Baguio

Growing up, I always loved longanisa, tocino and tapa; but when I found out that they are actually loaded with preservatives and most of them are not 100% pork, I tried staying away from them. There is way too much MSG in them and can be bad for your health, especially if eaten everyday for breakfast.

You don’t need to fret, though, because we just found an awesome product that you will surely love to munch on.

Dipasupil is the owner’s last name and the business has been around since 1950 and is very famous in Baguio. They started as a meat stall in the Baguio City Market and is now renowned as Baguio Longanisa.

They have De Hamon – the one that’s sweet and ham-like – and De Reccado, which is the Garlic Spice Flavor.

Dipasupil takes pride in their 100% pork + spices recipe. They don’t add extenders, MSG, nitrites or even preservatives. Since they don’t add preservatives, the shelf life is shorter, but you are guided by the manufacture and expiry date at the back of the packet. The meat they use is only pure lean pork!

I asked the owner what the best way would be to serve or cook it. He said it would be best to cut them up and fry them, but you can also grill, boil or bake them depending on what you fancy.

I personally love the De Hamon – it’s perfect to pair with rice and egg for breakfast. The taste and meat quality is noticeable, too. The meat is very tender and you can taste all the natural spices put into it. Try Dipasupil yourself and see what I mean!
