Netizen Michael Melvin Odoemene expressed his deep dismay on social media following unnecessary remarks about his appearance made by restaurant employees. After dining with his friends, the group received a receipt that noted him as “Kamukha ni Black Jack,” and more.

Printed on the official receipt were: “SA NAKA BLACK NA NAKAUPO SA 14 KULOT ANG BUHOK KAMUKHA NI BLACK JACK.” (To the person wearing black, seated at table 14, with curly hair, and looks like Black Jack.)
“This behavior was exhibited by one of their staff members, who took it upon herself to make remarks about my appearance based on my racial background,” Odoemene narrated in his post.
“As an individual of Nigerian and Filipino descent, I know I’m different. But was the note necessary?”
To make matters worse, Odoemene said he initially received a “dismissive response” when the upset customer raised his concerns to the assistant manager.
Odoemene was nonetheless assured that the waitress responsible for the remarks “would be reprimanded.” Still, “I am left feeling unsatisfied with the resolution provided.”
“Merely reprimanding the staff member in question does not address the broader issue of fostering a culture of inclusivity and respect within their restaurant,” he explained.
“I am posting this for awareness against racism or any form of judgment/bias passed to strangers. Who knows how many black people they have done this to?”
“They apologized, yes. But what lessons can we learn from this experience?”
