When In Manila, a new type of ice cream has just gone mainstream.  Joseph’s Craft Ice Cream now offers you an experience like no other with ice cream made with Liquid Nitrogen!
when-in-manila-josephs-ice-cream-liquid-nitrogenLets go back to the chemistry lab.  What is liquid nitrogen?  You might remember from science class that most of the air we breathe is nitrogen (about 78%) with 20% being oxygen and the remaining 2% a potpourri of gases.  Liquid nitrogen is -196 C (in other words, its super cold).  While liquid nitrogen is used for many temperature-related applications, its particularly useful for freezing foods.

How does it work?  The secret to creamy ice cream is all in the rapid freezing of the mixture.  The liquid nitrogen causes the fat and water particles to stay very small, giving the ice cream its creamy consistency.  The goal is to avoid ice crystals – similar to what you get when you make ice.  According to food science experts, rapid freezing preserves the nutrients in food (a quick frozen vegetables that’s three months old will likely have a nutrient composition closer to harvest levels than a five day old vegetable).

First your choice flavor is prepared.

Then subject to really really cold liquid nitrogen with continuous stirring.

And there you have it! Just like magic.

Its a pretty amazing sight to see prepared right before your eyes.

They’ve got pretty cool flavors too : Coffee Latte, Cookies & Cream, Strawberry, Sea Salt Caramel, Strawberry, Chocolate, Organic Vanilla Bean even Bacon Crisps! Like in this picture.  It was the first time for me to try bacon with ice cream – and it was just exquisite.

You get to choose your own toppings from pecan, almonds, cashew, walnut, macadamia, crushed oreo, cruhsed biscoff, and dark choco chips.  Both young and old line up to Joseph’s Craft Ice Cream (1) because its so cool (2) the sweetness is just right (great for the lolos & lolas too) !

The best part is that your ice cream is mixed and crafted individually by hand.  Each ice cream is made specifically for you as you watch the entire process happen right before your eyes.

Prices range : Php 150 – 190 per cup.

What about having Joseph’s Craft Ice Cream in your next birthday party? You will surely wow your guests with this concept.
