BINI Responds to Allegations That “Salamin, Salamin” Is a Witchcraft Song

BINI spoke up on the allegations that their hit single “Salamin, Salamin” is a witchcraft song.

In a press conference of Shopee, where they were named the newest brand ambassador, the P-pop girl group responded to the claims circulating on social media.

The group’s leader, Jhoanna, said they recently saw the post linking their song to witchcraft.

“Actually, hindi po kami nakaka-open ng social media po dahil sobrang busy namin. Ngayon lang po namin nalaman yan pero hindi na po natin ma-control kasi yung utak ng ibang tao [We don’t have the time to open social media because we’re really busy. We just found out about it but we can’t control how other people think],” she noted.

Meanwhile, Colet emphasized she finds it funny, “Actually, nakita ko po yun, yung post na yun. Natatawa na lang po kami na may mga ganun na pong nabubuong kwento na theory theory po yung mga tao [Actually, I saw the post. We find it funny that people come up with stories and theories like that].”

“Fake news po yun. Hindi po witchcraft ang ‘Salamin, Salamin.’ Maganda lang yung song [That’s fake news. ‘Salamin, Salamin’ is not a witchcraft. It’s just a good song],” Maloi quipped.

These allegations came after a religious group called Follow Jesus Ministry linked “Salamin, Salamin” to witchcraft, claiming that its lyrics referred to a magic mirror, which many Christians condemn as being against the teachings of the Church.

Prior to that, the group also expressed dismay over the video of another religious group dancing to the remix version of the chart-topping hit.

“It’s heartbreaking to see this happening sa mga churches ngayon [It’s heartbreaking to see this happening in churches lately],” its post read.

“Salamin, Salamin” was released in March. As of writing, it already garnered over 43 million streams on Spotify and over 13 million views on YouTube.

Composed of Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena, BINI is set to hold their first solo concert from June 28 to 30 at the New Frontier Theater.
