Behind the Burner: How a New LPG Training Arm Aims to Standardize Workforce Safety and Compliance

Isla LPG Corporation marked a significant milestone in its commitment to safety and excellence in the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) industry with the launch of Isla EDGE, its dedicated training arm focused on developing competent, safety-conscious, and qualified LPG practitioners.

The milestone was celebrated during a recognition and launch event held on August 19, 2026, following the Department of Energy’s (DOE) recognition of Isla LPG Corporation as one of the country’s official LPG Training Organizations.

This achievement comes as LPG continues to play a vital role in the Philippines’ energy landscape. For millions of Filipino households, LPG remains the primary cooking fuel. Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority’s 2020 Census of Population and Housing showed that 47.9% of Philippine households used LPG as their primary cooking fuel, making it the most commonly used source nationwide—ahead of wood, charcoal, electricity, and kerosene.

Because LPG is central to everyday life and economic activity, properly handling, storing, transporting, distributing, and selling it is critical to protecting consumers, workers, businesses, and communities. This need becomes even more significant as the country’s LPG sector continues to evolve.

Under the Philippine Energy Plan 2023–2050, the Department of Energy projects substantial long-term growth in household LPG requirements. At the same time, the implementation of Republic Act No. 11592, or the LPG Industry Regulation Act, has reinforced the importance of industry regulation, safety, accountability, and consumer protection.

In this landscape, Isla LPG is introducing Isla EDGE—an initiative focused on developing a stronger, more capable workforce for an industry where knowledge, discipline, and responsible practices directly contribute to safety. Isla EDGE is committed to empowering skilled LPG retailers and dealers through quality training and continuous learning. Its programs strengthen competencies across the entire LPG value chain, from safe handling and operations to responsible distribution, sales practices, and regulatory compliance.

For Isla LPG, sustainability is closely tied to how the LPG ecosystem operates. A responsible industry requires systems that encourage proper handling and distribution, informed consumers, capable personnel, and practices that minimize waste while maintaining safety and quality.

“Isla EDGE represents our commitment to developing people who can help build a safer, more responsible, and more sustainable LPG industry. We want our LPG dealers and retailers to understand not only what they need to do, but why it matters—to their colleagues, to consumers, to our communities, and to the future of the industry,” said Marvin Castor, Isla LPG’s public affairs officer.

The launch of Isla EDGE reinforces Isla LPG’s belief that safety and sustainability begin with people. When industry practitioners are properly trained and equipped, they are better positioned to make sound decisions, follow established standards, identify risks, and promote responsible practices throughout the value chain.

This people-centered approach complements the company’s broader efforts to expand LPG accessibility and encourage responsible market participation. From supporting safe, compliant operations to enabling consumers to exchange LPG tanks across brands through the Solane network, Isla LPG continues to seek ways to make the LPG experience more convenient while strengthening trust and accountability.

For Isla LPG, DOE recognition as an LPG Training Organization is not simply an institutional achievement—it is an opportunity to foster a culture where training, safety, sustainability, and excellence become everyday practices across the sector.

Through Isla EDGE, the company aims to help raise the bar for LPG personnel capability while supporting a safer, more sustainable energy ecosystem for generations to come. Ultimately, building a better industry means empowering the people who will carry it forward responsibly.
