Backyard Coffee: All You Need is a Hug from a Mug

Backyard Coffee

I love coffee shops. I love how you can find your own space amidst the crowd of other coffee shop dwellers. I love the smell of brewing coffee enveloping the whole place. I love how you can share stories here with your friends. I love how you can find serenity and how the ambiance will clear your mind. I love the quiet and comfort it brings. Somehow, coffee shops are a retreat whenever I feel a burnout. And to others as well.

Backyard Coffee

One coffee shop that I went to recently, sits at the heart of San Juan City. Backyard Coffee is a sweet secret to all coffee lovers out there. If you haven’t gone here, it’s time you do.

Backyard Coffee

With its wooden and grey interiors that are simple and easy to the eyes, it feels as homey as it can get. The place is spacious and warm. At the background, you can hear the lovely sound of brewing coffee or cooking food, or a bit of conversations here and there.

They have a big tea cup wall paint, where you can post your thoughts; whatever you have in your mind.

Their colorful cups give the life to Backyard Coffee’s neutrals; just like how their coffee and food to their customers. It’s like a hug from their mugs.

Backyard CoffeeFlat White Coffee (P130)

Warm yourself up with a cup of their flat white, and invigorate your senses to put you in the mood for some of Backyard Coffee’s bestsellers.

Backyard CoffeeBYC Chicken Salad (P160)

Non-veggie eaters (like myself) will be a convert once you try this starter. Chicken strips with candied walnuts and mangoes on a bed of greens can be a meal in itself; a healthy and filling one. I can eat this everyday!

Backyard CoffeeBYC Tapa

One of the owners, Andrew Sy, describes this dish as similar to the famous Rodic’s, and I will not disagree. The tapa is so packed with flavor. It’s great for breakfast, lunch or dinner! It might also remind you of your college years. Sigh.

Backyard CoffeeSalpicao Silog (P250)

Juicy and tender meat, paired with scrambled eggs and greens and sinangag, make this Silog a winner. Although it’s big enough to share, it’s delicious to finish it all by yourself.

Backyard CoffeeGrilled Cheese Sandwich (P200)

My most favorite of all, I must say, is this Grilled Cheese Sandwich. One word to describe this sandwich is, “Solid!” Flaky, tasty Monroe bread with three types of cheese in between, grilled to get that perfect toasty taste and texture will seal your approval. You can have it with either honey or strawberry jam. Whichever you choose, though, it will convince you still that it’s one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches out there.

The next time you feel like in need for some warmth and quiet of a coffee shop, keep Backyard Coffee in mind. P.S. They definitely have a lot in store for the following year, so stay tuned! 🙂
