ATTENTION Fellow HUAWEI Users! Don’t Panic

I must admit, as a Huawei fanatic for almost a decade now, I was one of those who had a mini heart attack yesterday when I heard the news that Google suspended some business with Huawei after the US government added Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd to a trade blacklist.

Instead of giving into rumours and jumping to hasty conclusions, I decided to keep calm and find reliable sources online to educate myself about the matter. I am very dependent on Google (perhaps you too), so I wanted to know if my Huawei devices will be affected by the ban.

If you’re a Huawei consumer like me who is also worried and confused, here are statements from Google, Android and Huawei’s local PR arm to prove that there is no cause for panic….

Statement by Google spokesperson from the Reuters report

“We are complying with the order and reviewing the implications.  For users of our services, Google Play and the security protections from Google Play Protect will continue to function on existing Huawei devices.”

What I think

I’ve worked closely with Huawei for the past 4 years and as someone who has been to the Huawei HQ in Shenzhen, China many times, I can say that they have created countless meaningful innovations over the years…. Not only through their super smartphones, but also with tech innovations that are practical, yet so powerful in the aim for a safer, better-connected world.

Huawei is waaaaaaaaay ahead and is definitely capable of multifold things … perhaps this is the reason why the US is so “insecure.” hehe
