Architects Live In Manila: Intensity, Technicality and Breakdowns

Several times, the audience were whipped into a frenzy with the band’s sound which covers the Metalcore aspect right down pat, but they also boast of elements ranging from the emotional Post-Hardcore, the wizardry of Mathcore and the bombast of Deathcore. Some of the night’s highlights were Alpha Omega, Early Grave, C.A.N.C.E.R, Naysayer, Youth Is Wasted On The Young and The Distant Blue. These particular songs ignited the circle pit and had the loudest sing-alongs.

There were heartfelt spiels in between given by Sam Carter, where he mentioned how the band has fulfilled a dream by coming to Manila because some of their musician friends from home were telling them how awesome the Philippine audience is. They said that the Manila leg of the tour is one of their best shows and definitely one for the books. A big moment also came when Sam introduced guitarist Adam Christianson and stated that he is now the newest member of Architects.

I personally am not a Metalcore fan. I prefer Thrash Metal and old school Hardcore, perhaps it’s an age thing, but I have to hand it to Architects, because this band can deliver. As great as the sound and production of their various releases, Architects is an even better band experienced live. Not only do they passionately perform their art, but the sound itself is coherent and tight, showcasing the chemistry of all the members on stage with each other and the audience present. The five piece ended very powerfully with the final song, “Gravedigger.”

It was an intense auditory experience and even after the lights were turned on, majority of the crowd stayed in the venue to soak up the atmosphere and remaining energy. Then to the delight of the masses, the members of Architects went out to the crowd in front of the stage to shake hands and have photo ops. It was a night of music. It was a night of camaraderie. And it was a night of community.
