A study by South Korean scientists at Dankook University claims that Kimchi could be the solution for people with thinning hair. The traditional Korean dish is said to contain properties which are able to reverse hair loss. Researchers found that a South Korean Kimchi drink was able to aid the study’s participants in thickening and even growing new hair in a matter of weeks.

The study was conducted over the course of 4 months. It asked 23 male participants in early stages of hair loss to have the kimchi drink twice a day: at breakfast, then again at bedtime. One month of consuming the drink led to the average number of hairs increasing from 85 per square centimetre to 90. By the end of the fourth month the hair increased to 92 per square centimeter.
Its findings were published in the World Journal of Men’s Health, promising not just an increase in hair growth but also a reversal in hair loss. This is especially significant given that current medication for hair loss continues to maintain side effects.

“Current drugs can have adverse effects so their use is usually temporary.” Researchers explained. “We found kimchi could promote hair growth and reverse baldness. It is a safer treatment strategy for patients.”
