Anne Curtis Addresses the Iconic “I Can Buy You” Line After All These Years

Anne Curtis finally speaks about the 2013 “I can buy you” moment—and why she stayed quiet all these years.

While guesting on the Ang Walang Kwentang Podcast with directors Antoinette Jadaone and JP Habac, the actress had a light, fun conversation promoting her upcoming film The Loved One with Jericho Rosales, and the topic naturally drifted to her past—including that infamous line.

When Habac jokingly asked if that was where she said “I can buy you,” Anne laughed and said she’d finally tell her side of the story.

Anne said she later asked her friends whether she really said the line.

Sabi ng friends ko, ‘no, you didn’t say it,’” she shared. “But you know what, it’s so iconic now, I’m just gonna own it.”

She added that she’s no longer bothered by it, especially since even her husband, Erwan Heussaff, has told her to just embrace how it’s become part of pop culture.

“I know the truth naman,” she said. “So I’m not affected.”

Anne also explained why she chose to stay silent back in 2013.

“At that point, anything I would have said, parang it wouldn’t have mattered,” she said, adding that speaking up would only have made things worse. For her, it didn’t make sense to drag anyone else into the issue.

Still, she admitted that the backlash affected her deeply. “Sobrang may anxiety, hindi ako nagbukas ng social media for two months,” she said. During that time, she felt isolated—but it also showed her who her real friends were, as they checked on her and made sure she wasn’t alone.

A quick refresher: the controversy reportedly happened in November 2013 at Privé Luxury Club in Bonifacio Global City, where Anne was allegedly involved in a heated confrontation with several personalities, including photographer JR Isaac.

Reports at the time claimed she slapped Isaac and shouted the line widely quoted in the media as, “I can buy you, your friends, and this club,” which quickly went viral and became one of the most talked-about celebrity controversies of that year.

Anne later issued a public apology for her behavior, saying she had too much to drink while on a juice cleanse and described the incident as a lesson learned. She and model Phoemela Baranda also clarified that the remark was not directed at Baranda, despite early speculation.

The podcast also touched on Anne’s love story with Erwan Heussaff. She shared that they met through her close friendship with Solenn Heussaff, stayed in touch while Erwan was living in Russia, and got to know each other through long online conversations and even snail mail.

“The rest is history,” she said. The two married in 2017 and now share a five-year-old daughter, Dahlia.

Anne also opened up about past heartbreaks and the emotional decisions she made when she was younger—from tearing up love letters to running after someone’s car during a breakup. Looking back, she said those experiences taught her the importance of letting go, giving herself time to heal, and trusting that the right person will come along.
