Andrea Brillantes candidly expressed her feelings regarding her sudden breakup with basketball player Ricci Rivero during her guest appearance at Magandang Buhay, after being asked by host Melai Cantiveros how her heart is at the moment.
“Kamusta naman ang puso mo ngayon, Andrea? Malaya na rin ba?” Melai asked her.
In response, Andrea said with a smile, “‘Yung puso ko po? Tingin ko okay naman siya. I mean, kasi it could be worse. Sa mga nagaganap ngayon, pwedeng wala din ako dito today kasi hindi ko kayang humarap sa mga tao, pero tingin ko naman po sa lahat ng nagaganap, okay [ang puso ko] ngayon.”

“Kung malaya na ba ako? Parang di pa po ako malaya fully,” she continued. “Tingin ko kasi pag sinabing ‘freedom,’ mayroon ding part dun na acceptance kasi na-accept mo na, kailangan mo nang i-let go yung mga bagay-bagay. Ako po kasi aminado ako na since ang bago bago pa lang po talaga ng lahat at naging totoo kasi sa akin ang lahat, nagmahal ako ng totoo, hindi ko yun ma-le-let go agad-agad. So hindi ko masasabing malaya ako ng 100% kasi may mga bagay pang ayoko pang pakawalan. At mayroon pang mga bagay na pina-process ko pa.”
She admits that she is allowing herself to feel her grief and doesn’t feel embarrassed to do so because she’s human and she understands that it’s all part of the process of healing.
“Kasi ganun naman talaga, normal lang naman dapat na namnamin ko ‘tong mga feelings na ‘to para makapag-heal ako nang maayos. Ayoko namang maging pretentious na maki-trend lang [at magsabing] ‘I’m unbothered’ para lang masabi na unbothered ka. Aminado ako na nakakaramdam ako kasi tao pa rin po ako. Andon pa ako. Pero pinipili kong maging masaya at pinipili kong kahit gusto kong magsalita, pinipili kong wag na lang para wala nang gulo. Kahit marami akong gusto, pinipili ko na lang yung sarili ko at mag-focus sa kung anong meron ako at sa mga taong nagmamahal sa akin,” she said.
Melai, as well as her Magandang Buhay cohosts Jolina Magdangal and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, praised the 20-year-old actress for her mature approach to the breakup.

Fans of Andrea and Ricci were shocked to learn of their breakup when Ricci confirmed the news last June 9 on his Twitter account.
“I own up to the mistake of not making my relationship status public because I felt there’s no need to add up to what were going through. Please respect our decision to keep it to ourselves so that we can preserve [what’s] left of our friendship,” he wrote.
Ricci also appealed to the public, especially fans, to stop creating false accusations of him supposedly cheating on Andrea with beauty queen-turned-politician Leren Mae Bautista after he had reposted the latter’s Instagram story revealing that they were hanging out together.
“I am sorry for whatever disappointments it may have caused you – for everyone’s peace of mind, please allow ourselves to heal and move on peacefully without hate and pain,” he added.

Ricci and Andrea became an official couple in April 2022, after Ricci publicly asked Andrea to become his girlfriend at his UAAP basketball game.
