When In Manila and it’s raining hard, you might want to just stay in bed. Or in the sofa having movie marathon. Or your favorite TV series courtesy of torrent and pirate bay. With your home made popcorn or any junk food and soda. Until you fall asleep again.

Or think of some naughty things. Perfect for the weather.

But I had a different plan that afternoon. I will be attending the Freelance Writers’ Guild of the Philippines’ [FWGP] monthly Open Book. And bring a click gadget. And capture some moments from a lively and interesting conversation about love, life and sex.

Dr. Margie Holmes and her husband Jeremy Baer will be discussing some love topics and other complications as they introduce two new books Imported Love and Love Triangles. From the cutesy boy-girl romance to open relationships. To STDs and same sex marriages, orgies and other things that are taboos as defined by our society.

July 21, 2012. Saturday. Blame it on the rain or perhaps some other things. There were few attendees. But it didn’t dampen our high spirits. Dr. Holmes and her husband were answering questions with much enthusiasm and animated thrill. As per Dr. Holmes, “If you can’t be excited about sex, what else can excite you?”.

Having my teenage years in the 90s alongside Xerex, Toro, Bulgar and other tabloids, Dr. Margarita Holmes is a refreshing perspective. Clinical, rational and straightforward. Things that normal high school students can’t ask their parents, she will gladly explain.

I remember a column she wrote many years ago. It was about our mentality. And in school. That we find it vulgar and malicious if we use the tagalog term for vagina. Even in class and in sex education. So we mention it in English for some sort of discretion.

But why, oh why?! It’s not vulgar.

PUKE!
