Sometimes, a little change of pace between acads and work can let us breathe for a while before getting on with our daily grind in the city. Although some nights are made for loud-banging music, those along the university belt need a respite from getting wired or else we might just speed on to the point of burnout. The solution? Some good food, chill acoustic sets and awesome company!
Acustica Bistro and Lounge, the venue for Youth for Family and Life (YFL) Campus-Based event “CAMPUS PLAYLIST: Open Mic Night”, offers a hip but low-key ambience that gives just that.

The program kicked off with students from UST, UP, PUP, San Beda and Novaliches district being serenaded with pop tunes, indie rock, blues and OPM hits. The first main act was 2nd season Thomasian Idol Julia Mella and guitarist Gio Bugtong performing ‘Price Tag’ by Jessie J, ’Tenerife Sea’ by Ed Sheeran, and crowd favorites ‘Oo’ and ‘Tadhana’ by Up Dharma Down!
Rob and the Hitmen members Rob Sugue, Earl Garcia, Miguel Cid, and Jiggy Illagan covered ‘Rude’ by Magic and ‘Lay Me Down’ by Sam Smith. Their original songs ‘So Right’ and ‘One Night Boogie’ from their EP ‘Illusions’ livened up the evening with equal parts dance-y and laidback tunes.
And… Jband’s cover of Clean Bandit’s ‘Rather Be,’ Sam Smith’s ‘Stay with Me,’ ‘Tulak ng Bibig,’ Julianne Tarroja’s ‘Tulak ng Bibig, South Border’s ‘Kahit Kailan,’ and Side A’s ‘Forever’ led the later part of the evening to a strong end. They sure knew how to make us fall fast and hard!
