5 Reasons Why You Should Watch “Red Notice”

I don’t know about you, but I have been waiting for Red Notice to start showing on Netflix ever since I first heard of it because I am a huge fan of Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Hearing that they’d all come together in one film just made me so excited – and I am so happy to announce that I was not disappointed.

5 Reasons Why You Should Watch “Red Notice”

5. The Cast

With such a star-studded cast, there really is no reason not to click that Play button! I mean, that’s Deadpool, Wonder Woman, and Black Adam! Even Ryan Reynolds himself admits that he still gets star-struck around his co-stars. “It’s always interesting working with larger-than-life personalities like this and you never know how it’s going to go,” he said in a recent press conference that we attended. “Thankfully, we all knew each other. There wasn’t any of that concern.”

I am also amazed by the fact that Netflix was able to get all three of them together – and it seems Ryan was amazed by that, too. “It’s very hard to get the three main stars of the movie – myself, Dwayne, and Gal – in a room together, let alone in a whole movie together. And you leave it to Netflix to figure out some way to do it. I mean, they’re so innovative over there, and they figured out how to master some pretty wildly complex scheduling, and Red Notice had some tricky scheduling issues to meet. Getting kind of three personalities like that in one feature film is a challenge. And they did it.” Kudos to Netflix!

4. Their Chemistry

It’s not just that they’re huge actors, either; their chemistry in Red Notice is undeniable. You can really tell that they’re comfortable with each other and get along well. This really isn’t surprising since, according to Ryan, he and Dwayne have been friends for over 20 years now while he has known Gal for almost 10 years. “I love the fact that I got to just kind of jump in the sandbox with some friends I’ve known for a long time and have fun,” Ryan muses. “And it’s not every day that you get to do that. And sometimes, you forget this job is fun. And I never forgot it for a second on the set of Red Notice. It was really special.” Their camaraderie and friendship are really evident on screen and I think that’s what made the movie all the more enjoyable.

Ryan adds, “If you come to dinner with Dwayne and I, you will see we quite literally talk to each other the way we talk to each other in Red Notice. And it’s pretty funny to be around, and it’s just kind of the way it’s always been for us. So putting up that on the screen was a real pleasure.”

3. The Action

I’m also a sucker for action movies, so Red Notice really hit the spot. I was at the edge of my seat woo-hoo-ing at the screen almost the entire time, and time really flew by. There wasn’t a single dull moment. I really love watching strong women fight, too, so seeing Gal kick butt was also such a joy. Even Ryan raved about her athleticism in the fight sequences. “She did a ton of that herself, as well. I was really blown away by that,” he shares. “And then Dwayne’s just… I’ve known him a long time, but just his sheer strength. He’s so strong. He just picked me up and throw me across the room like I was a toothpick so those were pretty amazing moments to sort of witness firsthand.”

Ryan went on to rave about his co-stars, claiming that Gal is probably the best fighter out of the trio. “Gal is very elegant, very flexible, and clearly has some significant training in this. Now, Dwayne will kill you if he gets his hands on you. But the thing that I know is that I’m faster than Dwayne. So if I say something that goes a little bit too far, I always know that I can run away. So I would say that that Gal is probably the best fighter because all-around fighter Dwayne, if he gets his hands on you, you’re done. And me, I’m not a fighter. I’m mostly, you know, a bit of a chicken. So you’ll see in the movie, I usually try to avoid the fights as much as possible and stick to the stealing.”

2. The Comedy

Dwayne Johnson points out that they really tried their best to raise the bar with their action sequences, but they also brought some great comedy into it. “We are all no stranger to action, so to try and raise the bar in action sequences is not easy to do. It’s challenging. That’s why you’ll see in our movie, as heightened and intense as our action sequences are, there’s a lot of great comedy and Gal Gadot adds a lot of style to that. It looks so beautiful.”

Ryan also shares that he actually wrote a lot of the jokes in Red Notice. “I write eight or nine options for each joke and I leave it to the editor and the director just to decide which ones they feel are suitable for the movie,” he says. “I like to give them a whole bunch of options. So yeah, a lot of those little things are just throwaway.”

1. The Twists

Although there are already a lot of heist movies and series out there, Red Notice keeps things fresh with its twists and turns. Rawson Thurber definitely did an amazing job writing the script and directing the movie. “I think that he really managed to re-engineer this type of heist movie,” says Gal Gadot. “There’s so much to it. He managed to make it on its own as much as he got inspiration from different movies from the past. I think that the twists and turns are super smart and strong. I think that the wit and the and the funny moments are very fun and the boys are in the movie. So what else can one ask for?”

Dwayne agrees. “Okay. I love the surprise. And that’s the thing, too. If you could surprise an audience today… audiences are very savvy, and they could call the movie, generally. The movies that they watch and the movies that we watch, too, it feels like we can call them as they’re happening. But we were able to surprise the audience here and take them on a twisting journey that ended with a great surprise that they weren’t able to call. So I loved it. And also, it’s so much fun to be able to get the viewer to be engaged with the story. I feel like, by the second time people are going to watch this movie, there are so many things and Easter eggs they’re going to pick out. And that’s always fun.”

Red Notice starts streaming on Netflix tomorrow, Friday, November 12, 2021. Don’t miss it!
