1. Kayangan Lake
I’ve never been on a lake before. I’ve never swam in one. Kayangan Lake is a mixture of Salt and fresh water. In terms of swimming, the buoyancy of the water was different in comparison to the ocean. You get to swim deeper and you are heavier which I loved as I could go deeper.
Boats are parked on the other side of the lake.
We were told that the ones who live here are people of the Tagbanua tribes who are the original inhabitants of Coron, Palawan. They are not disturbed and they maintain the surroundings. There are also islands in Coron that can not be visited by tourists as they are sacred grounds for the tribes and their villages. They opened Kayangan lake and Baracuda lake for tourists. I love how everyone respects everyone and is happily coexisting.
On the way to the Kayangan Lake you need to hike up a very small hill from where they would dock the boat to the lake. Be careful as it is very slippery! There are a lot of rocks. I slipped a lot of times because my aqua shoes could not grip firmly.
The view from the peak of the hike going to the lake.
The lake was pristine and beautiful. The kind you see in movies. The color is really an emerald color and it is very deep. There are also little fishes that thrive here and even Baracudas (in Baracuda lake) which are harmless as they are very shy and live very deep. The only way to see them is if you scuba dive. I am more concerned if humans are harmless to them as well. I hope they stay undisturbed.
To the people of Coron, thank you so much for the hospitality. I hope your government will still uplift and uphold protecting your wildlife and continue to be a place of peace.
If you are going on a tour I recommend JY TOURS as they are very accommodating and their tour guides and boatmen are very informative and friendly. I loved chatting with them. We stayed in Mamita’s Place which is just 2 mins away from the port and on the main road where all the good restaurants and bars are. I highly recommend it! Please tell Mamita I said hello!
Coron Palawan is definitely a place to visit, When In the Philippines.
