Representing Philippines at Wonderfruit Festival, Thailand
Wonderfruit extended their reach to attract young festivalgoers and music-lovers from around the region. One of the acts representing the Philippines is indie dance duo Tarsius, which consists of Diego Mapa (vocalist of the band Pedicab), and Jay Gapasin. Their unique take mixing electronic music with live elements and an indie twist, have gotten them noticed by many regional festivals and even international DJs who regularly play their tracks, Four Tet being one of them.
Joining Tarsius will be Mikhail Schemm, better known as Mikail when he is DJing at the country’s top clubs and festivals, or his gigs around the Asia region. An underground favorite in Manila, the Swiss-Filipino Mikail relocated to his native land Philippines from London to help grow the quality of the electronic music scene a few years ago and is highly associated with the growing scene in Manila, especially through his events at Black Market or The Sunday Social at Palace Pool Club. A regular at many of Southeast Asia’s biggest festivals, such as Malasimbo Festival and Clockenflap, he is also resident for Singapore’s Super 0 and has played alongside the likes of The xx and Jamie xx, Franz Ferdinand, Kerri Chandler, Nina Kraviz, amongst many others.
Representing Wonderfruit Festival in the Philippines is Third Culture Music, whose aim is to push the ethos of the festival and encourage Filipinos to experience one of the only globally conscious and eco-friendly festivals in the region, coupled with top international artists and numerous interesting elements from food to art and fashion.
