After news got out that the Lizzie McGuire sequel is being put on hold following the controversial dismissal of original creator Terri Minsky from the Disney+ project, there hasn’t been any word about it since.
For months, fans have been kept in the dark about whether or not the revival series will push through. It wasn’t until a screenshot of Minsky on a video call with other writers of the revival surfaced on the internet that fans were given hope that the series will happen after all!
On top of that, Hilary Duff also confirmed in an interview with People that everyone is still in talks to reach a compromise between Minsky’s vision of Lizzie at 30-years-old and Disney+’s stipulation for the show to be “family-friendly.”
“There’s still conversations going on in hopes that we can find a way to meet in the middle and both bend a little bit,” she said.
So yes, it looks like the Lizzie McGuire revival is still happening, which means that fans can keep theorizing what Lizzie’s antics will be in the show and who else will be making a comeback. In fact, Hilary was asked about the possibility of bringing back a certain character to the sequel.
It’s hard to forget Paolo, the popstar sensation from The Lizzie McGuire movie who took advantage of Lizzie in an elaborate scheme to embarrass his fellow singer, Isabella.
And although Lizzie left Paolo completely behind in Rome, fans are wondering if ever he might make a surprise appearance in the upcoming show. Hilary’s response to the theory?
“I’m still talking to [the team] weekly, I don’t know. They were shooting and then everything was put on hold. And we’re just kind of figuring out if we can make this happen. But there were plans for a lot of people to be in the show. So, um, I already know some of those things but I don’t know about Paolo. I think she’d probably be pretty mad to see him,” she said.
