‘Lizzie McGuire’ Creator Breaks Silence on Delayed Sequel After She Was Fired From It

Looks like trouble is brewing with the much-awaited Lizzie McGuire sequel that was supposedly coming out on Disney+. In a report we published last January, it was revealed that the show’s original creator, Terri Minsky, had departed from the project as the showrunner which resulted in the production to be temporarily put on hold.

Not much has been shared about why Terri left aside from “creative differences,” according to Disney’s official statement on the subject. But now, Terri has finally spoken up about her untimely departure in an interview with Variety.

Lizzie McGuire Revival

Apparently, Terri had been fired from the project precisely because of “creative differences” with Disney. It would seem that her vision of Lizzie McGuire as an adult did not align with what Disney had wanted for its streaming platform.

“I am so proud of the two episodes we did,” Terri told Variety. “Hilary has a grasp of Lizzie McGuire at 30 that needs to be seen. It’s a wonderful thing to watch.

I would love the show to exist, but ideally I would love it if it could be given that treatment of going to Hulu and doing the show that we were doing. That’s the part where I am completely in the dark. It’s important to me that this show was important to people. I felt like I wanted to do a show that was worthy of that kind of devotion.”

Although Hilary Duff has not spoken up about the issue, she did share a cryptic post on her Instagram stories wherein she encircled the headline of a viral news story about the Love, Simon television series being pulled out of Disney+ for allegedly not being “family-friendly.”

“Sounds familiar…” she wrote on the post.

As of now, it is unknown if Disney has found a new showrunner for the Lizzie McGuire revival and if the new series will actually push through.
