‘Lizzie McGuire’ Revival Stops Production After Original Creator Leaves Project

We wish it wasn’t true, but sadly, it is. The Lizzie McGuire Revival has temporarily halted production after the original creator of the series, Terri Minsky, stepped down as the Disney+ revival’s showrunner.

A spokesperson from Disney explained in an issued statement: “Fans have a sentimental attachment to Lizzie McGuire and high expectations for a new series. After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the series.”

It’s unclear if Minsky is also letting go of her role as executive producer since it’s only been confirmed that they are searching for a new showrunner. At least fans can rest assured that the Lizzie McGuire Revival is definitely still happening. The first look at the show was already given in Disney+’s 2020 original content reel, after all!

In the meantime, Hilary Duff is enjoying her honeymoon in Mozambique with her new husband Matthew Koma.

The revival series follows Lizzie as she turns 30 years old in New York. She has her dream job as an assistant to a decorator, a boyfriend, and a Brooklyn apartment, but not everything is as it seems.

She will be joined by the original show’s cast, including Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine, Jake Thomas, and Adam Lamberg. And yup, even the animated Lizzie version will be back but she’ll still be 13 years old!

Lizzie McGuire ran from 2001 to 2004 and followed the titular character, portrayed by Duff, as she navigated teenage life. In 2003, it was adapted into a film starring all the actors in the series.

There’s no word when the revival series will air.
